This iPhone case features a detail from Edgar Degas’s (French, 1834–1917) The Dance Class (1874), which is considered one of the artist’s most ambitious figural compositions. This celebrated painting, now in The Met collection, depicts some 24 women—ballerinas and their mothers—waiting as a dancer executes an “attitude” for her examination by the ballet master Jules Perrot. The imaginary scene takes places in a rehearsal room at the old Paris Opéra, which had recently burned down.
