This dazzling statement brooch in 12K gold plate is lavishly adorned with glass gems and freshwater pearls. It was inspired by a 1597 portrait of Ellen Maurice by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger (Flemish, 1561–1635/36). Wear this bold accent for a decidedly regal touch.
An heiress who claimed direct descent from the ancient princes of Wales, Maurice is shown in splendid attire that emulates portraits of Queen Elizabeth I. Marcus Gheeraerts was the most important member of an artistic Anglo-Flemish family that had a major impact on early modern English painting.
